template_depends: throw nice error message when template cannot be found
...
plovs reported a crash when templates were not installed properly,
with a non-useful error about the template object not being defined.
I've audited all uses of template_depends(), and template(), and it makes
sense for them to throw an error if the template cannot be found. All code
with a user-supplied template catches errors already, to handle template
parse failures.
It did not make sense for template_file to throw errors, as some code uses
it to probe if a template file is available.

blogspam: Fix crash when content contained utf-8.
...
I also tried setting RPC::XML::ENCODING but that did not prevent the crash,
and it seems that blogspam.net doesn't like getting xml encoded in unicode,
since it mis-flagged comments as spammy that way that are normally allowed
through.

fix other 2 cases of conflicting destdir files
...
Cleanly fixed case where destdir file failed to be written because there
was a directory with the same name. This can be detected with no extra
system calls, and dealt with by finding all pages that wrote files
inside the directory, and removing them and the directory.
The other, inverse case would be expensive to detect in will_render,
since it would need to check each parent directory of the file to see
if the directory is really a conflicting file. But prep_writefile
already does a similar scan for symlinks in the path, so I added code
there to remove the conflicting file. This fix assumes that the file
is written using writefile, and not some other means (but using other means
would be a security hole too, so hopefully nothing does).

This better defines what the filter hook is passed, to only be the raw,
complete text of a page. Not some snippet, or data read in from an
unrelated template.
Several plugins that filtered text that originates from an (already
filtered) page were modified not to do that. Note that this was not
done very consistently before; other plugins that receive text from a
page called preprocess on it w/o first calling filter.
The template plugin gets text from elsewhere, and was also changed not to
filter it. That leads to one known regression -- the embed plugin cannot
be used to embed stuff in templates now. But that plugin is deprecated
anyway.
Later we may want to increase the coverage of what is filtered. Perhaps
a good goal would be to allow writing a filter plugin that filters
out unwanted words, from any input. We're not there yet; not only
does the template plugin load unfiltered text from its templates now,
but so can the table plugin, and other plugins that use templates (like
inline!). I think we can cross that bridge when we come to it. If I wanted
such a censoring plugin, I'd probably make it use a sanitize hook instead,
for the better coverage.
For now I am concentrating on the needs of the two non-deprecated users
of filter. This should fix bugs/po_vs_templates, and it probably fixes
an obscure bug around txt's use of filter for robots.txt.

Using named parameters for these is overdue. Passing the session in a
parameter instead of passing username and IP separately will later allow
storing other session info, like username or part of the email.
Note that these functions are not part of the exported API,
and the prototype change will catch (most) skew, so I am not changing
API versions. Any third-party plugins that call them will need updated
though.

remove obsolete ol class=form for editpage and editcomment
...
The styling of labels on the form largely obsoleted the special styled ol,
so just a few br's sufficed. Using an ol like that was not too semantically
right (probably?) and could cause problems with customized local.css.

style.css: Improvements to make floating sidebar fit better on pages with inlines.

The key is using width: auto; overflow: auto; -- this allows the div(s) to the
left of the floating sidebar to be resized to fit next to it, and prevents
any clear: both from pushing the div down below the end of the sidebar.
Many thanks for the Hurd wiki's developers for originally figuring this out.
The edit page recently developed the same problem with its textarea, now
that a sidebar can appear on that page too. In editpage.tmpl I needed to
add a new div around the editcontent textarea, as the above styles cannot
be applied directly to textareas. The textarea's own width is reduced to
98% because at least in chromium this avoids it getting unnecessary
horizonatl scrollbars when a sidebar is displayed next to it.

move contrib plugin directives out of ikiwiki/directive
...
Problem is that ikiwiki/directive is turned into an underlay and added to
all wikis. And the test suite checks it for broken links and turns some up.
So it's not appropriate for contrib plugin's directives to be documented
in there.

Fix support for globbing in tagged() pagespecs.
...
The linktype check was being done on the relativised link target,
but %typedlinks uses the same link targets as %links, so that didn't work.
I think the bug only appeared when tagbase was not set.
This bugfix also let me factor out the common typedlink checking code.

This is a first pass, it avoids needing to change style.css
except where it refers to tag types.
This goes a bit off the rails at the pageheader with its nested header.
Semantically, there should be an article around the whole page
header, content, and footer. Just as there will be an article around a
whole comment or inlined page header, content, and footer.
But that will mean changing the css that currently refers to pageheader to
refer to the enclosing article instead.

look for templates in srcdir and underlays, first
...
This entailed changing template_params; it no longer takes the template
filename as its first parameter.
Add template_depends to api and replace calls to template() with
template_depends() in appropriate places, where a dependency should be
added on the template.
Other plugins don't use template(), so will need further work.
Also, includes are disabled for security. Enabling includes only when using
templates from the templatedir would be nice, but would add a lot of
complexity to the implementation.

Avoid adding the page matched against as an influence for
currently failing pagespec matches, while still adding
any other influences.
This avoids bloating depends_simple with lots of bogus influences when
matching eg, "!link(done)". It's only necessary for the page being tested
to be an influence of that if the page matches.

remove broken ./tag support
...
The commit that added the (working) support for using /tag to override
tagbase also tried to make ./tag work. Problem is, tags are links,
and ./foo is not a valid link (though I think there's a wishlist about it).
So, using ./tag really resulted in tag creation links that led to a
"bad page name" error. And even if the tag were created in the right place,
the link didn't go to it.

This is a slow implementation; it runs svn log once per file
still, rather than running svn log once on the whole srcdir.
I did it this way because in my experience, svn log, run on a directory,
does not always list every change to files inside that directory.
I don't know why, and I use svn as little as possible these days.

* Automatically run --gettime the first time ikiwiki is run on
a given srcdir.
* Optimise --gettime for git, so it's appropriatly screamingly
fast. (This could be done for other backends too.)
* However, --gettime for git no longer follows renames.
* Use above to fix up timestamps on docwiki, as well as ensure that
timestamps on basewiki files shipped in the deb are sane.

Space sorting orders consistently
...
Markdown interprets the empty lines resulting from [[!if]] as a request
that each <li> contain a <p>. For consistent spacing in the HTML, either
the unconditional items should have blank lines between (resulting in
each <li> having a <p>), or the conditional items should not (resulting
in messy source code, and no <li> having a <p>). I think the former
looks nicer.

This can be a lot faster, since huge numbers of pages are not sorted
only to mostly be thrown away. It sped up a build of my blog by at least
5 minutes.

note about sort and dependency types
...
There's a gotcha where pagespec_match_list is used with a dependency type
that is not a full content dependency, and so ikiwiki does not know that
a content change to a page that sorted too low to match needs to trigger
a rebuild, since its sort order may have changed.
Inline is mostly ok re this, as it does use content dependencies. Except
for in the case of raw mode. But then, page metadata is documented to not
be loaded, so it doesn't make sense to use sortspecs that depend on
metadata. I hope. :)

fix bug that left stray </p> tags
...
Both markdown and tidy add paragraph tags around text, that needs to be
stripped when the text is a short, one line fragment that is being inserted
into a larger page. tidy also adds several newlines to the end, and this
broke removal of the paragraph tags.

slightly more consistent capitalisation of ikiwiki
...
For a while, I was avoiding capitalizing ikiwiki at the beginning of a
sentence. I now think that's a bad idea (unless explicitly referring to
the `ikiwiki` command). Still, I don't go all the way and always cap it,
as a proper noun. That would make the logo look bad. ;)
I also tend to avoid capping it as IkiWiki, except when referring to the
perl internals, which do use that capitalization. (Too late to change
that.) However, it's also reasonable to do so in a WikiLink, as a nod to
historical camelcase wikis.

use __TINYC__ define to avoid tinyc compat fixes breaking FreeBSD
...
To review, tcc does not really use environ, so you have to use clearenv
there. But POSIX, in their wisdom, didn't standardise clearenv yet,
so on FreeBSD, one still needs to manipulate environ on their own.
(If you use tcc on FreeBSD, this may leave you unsatisfied.)

No, we don't normally push from servers to laptops. Because
most laptops do not have publicly accessible IP addresses,
for one thing. Also because there's really no reason to ssh to
the server from your laptop in order to update the laptop when you
can just pull.

add ngettext support & optimize gettext handling
...
As I was adding ngettext support, I realized I could optimize the gettext
functions by memoizing the creation of the gettext object. Note that
the object creation is still deferred until a gettext function is called,
to avoid unnecessary startup penalties on code paths that do not need
gettext.
A side benefit is that separate stub functions are no longer needed to
handle the C language case.

I think we only need left and right align. The other values including top,
middle, bottom, baseline, absbottom, etc, don't make much sense when
aligning an image that has a caption included. (They're mostly of value
when including a image in a line of text like a word.)

This is achieved by preparing CSS definitions that emulates the behavior
of the align attribute, and passing it to the outermost IMG wrapper
(A or TABLE) instead of passing the align value to IMG directly.
